7 Sports Award Night Ideas

Posted: 22 November 2021

Sports award nights are a great way for participants, supporters and officials to celebrate the end of a season.
Here are 7 sports award night ideas to ensure a memorable occasion for everyone attending your event.

1. Have a fun theme

This can help to make your awards night even more memorable. After all, the end of a sporting season is a chance for everyone to let their hair down and have some fun. You don’t want your night to be boring and if you choose a fun theme, it won’t be!

You could choose to make it fancy or formal dress to give everyone a chance to glam it up for the night.

2. Book a food and drink package

The last thing you want is for your guests to be hungry or thirsty during your sports award night. Hiring a venue that has catering and bar facilities will help to ensure that they won’t be.

You can then sit back, relax and enjoy the night along with everyone else.

3. Set up a photo booth to ensure memories are captured

People love capturing the memories of a fun night. A photo booth can encourage them to do that during your awards night. You can then post the images on social media if you want to showcase your event afterwards.

4. Have a lucky door prize

Everybody likes the chance to win a free prize. A lucky door prize gives everyone that chance, including those that have no chance of winning one of the sports awards being presented at your event. It can help to create a sense of anticipation leading up to the prize draw.

5. Book a good MC

An MC can make or break a sports awards night. A good one will entertain your guests and keep the speeches and presentations moving. On the other hand, a bad one can make the night drag.

There may be someone within your club who would be ideal for the MC role. If not, you can always hire a pro if your budget will allow it.

6. Book a guest speaker or award presenter

A guest speaker or award presenter can add a special touch to any sports award night. Your club may have a current or past star who would be happy to say a few words and present awards.

If you don’t, you could look into booking the services of someone who has excelled in your sport. Many of these people are only too happy to give back.

7. Show images and videos from your sporting season

Hiring a venue with a state-of-the-art projector screen can really bring your sports awards night to life. Instead of just telling your guests about your award-winning athletes and how good they are, you can show them with still action shots and videos projected onto a big screen.

Choosing the right venue for your sports award night is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. Right now, we’re offering a sports award night package at your choice of two of our VenuesWest venues: HBF Arena in Joondalup or Bendat Basketball Centre in Mount Claremont.
