Construction is about to begin on a new 10-lane lap pool at Arena Joondalup (formerly HBF Arena), offering a modernised swimming facility that will serve Perth's northern suburbs for decades to come.

The project, funded by the Cook Government, is scheduled to commence in December 2024, with completion in early 2026.

This new facility will provide significant benefits to the local community, offering accessibility and safety upgrades, improved competition features and a better overall experience for swimmers and spectators.

The new lap pool will complement the recently refurbished family leisure pool. As part of the project, both pools will feature advanced drowning prevention technology designed to quickly alert lifeguards to swimmers in need of assistance.

The pool includes 10 lanes, each 2.25m wide, with a deepened shallow end to accommodate starting blocks at both ends.

A new submersible dividing wall enables the pool to be configured for multipurpose use or to be expanded to 20 lanes in short course mode, enhancing its adaptability for a range of activities and events.

The addition of both an access ramp and stairs will significantly improve accessibility, allowing users with mobility challenges to enter and exit the water independently, eliminating reliance on the previously used pool hoist.

The expanded aquatic hall offers additional pool deck space, while the new grandstand features accessible seating for wheelchair users and companions.

The timing rooms and Arena Swim Club office will be refurbished, while a 220m2 extension will provide storage space, a maintenance washdown area, and improved driveway access.

The larger LED video display on the western wall will provide information and race results, elevating the event experience for all.

Further enhanced facilities include updated changing rooms with universal access toilets and an upgraded HVAC system to ensure comfort for swimmers and spectators alike.
