Leisure Pool to open mid July
Posted: 29 June 2020
We know you’re keen to get back into the water and we thank you for being so patient over the past few months while the pools have been closed.
Now for the good news – we're currently filling the pool and are working towards a re-opening date of Saturday 11 July. This date is not guaranteed as there are a few key milestones between now and then so we'll keep you updated here and through our Facebook page.
We had always planned to close the pools for a few months in order to complete the works, but we took the opportunity to include some additional projects while the venue was closed due to COVID-19.
While the aquatic centre has been closed we have;
- Replaced the insulation in the roof and installed new skylights
- Painted the ceiling
- Reconditioned the pool pumps
- Acid washed the pool surface
- Cemented the gutter grating supports
- Painted walls and offices
- Repaired and repainted the slide, including steps
- Oiled the sauna
- Removed old lights and speakers
- Replaced pool tiles
- Replaced lazy river jets
- Cleaned plant room and store rooms
- Painted equipment cages and medal dais
- Painted and installed new stair treads on west grandstand
- Installed shelving and change table in accessible change room
- Installed new bench top and shelving in first aid room
- And other bits and pieces behind the scenes
The 50m pool is still currently closed and we expect to re-open it for you in early September. Again, it was always planned to close this pool for the roof works, but we’re doing a few extra jobs now that will prevent further closures in the future.
We will be;
- Replacing the roof, installing new installation and skylights
- Painting the ceiling and general touch ups throughout
- Installing new anchor points for water polo lane ropes
- Re-conditioning pool pumps
- Replacing 45m tiles at both ends
- Painting grandstand and laying new stair treads
- Laying new water depth tiles
- Installing two additional 50m pool steps
- Pool floor inspected and all holes and gaps in vinyl have been repaired
- Grouting of sides of all bottom lane markers
We look forward to seeing our swimmers back in the pool soon!
