Want to break out of your fitness comfort zone in 2019? Say goodbye to repetitive workouts and switch it up by starting social netball!

Netball isn't one of the most popular sports played in Australia by girls and women for no reason! Not only is the sport great fun it also has an extensive list of benefits associated. These benefits include:

Physical benefits:
Netball requires players to utilize a range of movements including footwork, passing and jumping. All of these movements combined with 4 quarters of continuous running up and down a 30 metre court will definitely get the heart pumping and improve your fitness. Netball also works to improve hand eye coordination as players need to keep an eye out for their team mates who are passing the ball to them or are free to take a pass.

Social benefits:
As we get older and life begins to get in the way it can become harder to meet new people or align your schedules to catch up with old friends. Joining a netball team provides the perfect environment to meet new people and gives you a weekly excuse to catch up with friends while getting active. Social netball leagues are often less focused on moving your way up the ladder and more about having fun with your team mates while learning new skills.

Varied:
Netball is a great sport to play as no game is ever the same! With each game featuring 7 positions per team (3 attacking, 3 defending and 1 centre), this gives you the oppurtunity to move between different points on the court, helping to keep the game fresh and exciting. As every position has a different set of court restrictions and objectives, moving between positions will also help to identify your strengths and weaknesses to find out where you enjoy playing the most.

Stress Reliever:
Whether it is the stress of work, kids or life in general, your weekly netball game is a great way to get out of the house and be social and active! As netball involves a lot of strategy and quick on-your-feet thinking, an hour of game time will allow you to focus solely on doing your best and provides the perfect stress release.

Motivation:
At the gym it can be easy to skip a workout as there is nobody to keep you accountable other than yourself. When playing a team sport such as netball it makes it much harder to slack off and skip a weekly game as you have your team mates relying on you to play. This team environment encourages you to get out and excercise when you are lacking motivation.

Fun:
Netball is fun! When playing the sport you will forget you are exercising. Fitness becomes less of a chore and more of a social weekly activity played with friends. There is also no better feeling then playing a great game with your team mates and celebrating your hard work afterwards.

We hope this list has helped inspire you to get active and social by signing up to a netball competition!
